Ceramics

Ceramic is the general term used to describe a clay based material that has been heated to a point where it’s chemically combined water is driven away and can no longer be put back. The clay is no longer clay it has become pottery, it is ceramic.

Since my painted tiles are not pots they are called ceramic tiles.

Low fired pottery is fired at a temperature of around 750 degrees centigrade while the highest fired pottery can be as high as 1400 degrees centigrade. I fire my pots at 1160 degrees which is classed as high fired earthenware.
