Majolica

Decorating pots with coloured glazes is called majolica and I usually reserve this technique for special pieces.

First an opaque white tin glaze is applied to the pot, when this has dried sufficiently to be worked on the coloured glazes can be brushed or sponged on to make the decoration.

When the glazed and decorated pot is fired in the kiln the various coloured glazes melt into the white base glaze to give a generally bright but soft edged and subtle finish.
